CLEAR ADVANTAGES OF USING TIMBER FRAME

Timber frame has clear advantages practically, financially and environmentally. It offers:

Energy Efficiency: Timber is a natural and highly effective insulator. Typical timber frame panels with standard mineral wool insulation can deliver U-Values (a measurement of heat loss) which comfortably exceed the current Building Regulation requirements of 0.35w/m2k. We can also offer individual design to meet your detailed specifications with regard to U-Values. Essentially, heating costs of an average timber frame dwelling are considerably less than for a similar masonry dwelling, a well insulated timber frame building heats up much quicker and retains the heat more efficiently than a conventional masonry building.

Environmental Benefits: Timber is the only renewable building material. By using timber from sustainable resources, i.e. well managed forests, less energy and harmful C02 emissions are used in the construction process, as per Kyoto Agreement guidelines. Our suppliers provide us with wood cut from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) independently certified, well managed forests. At Swift Timber Homes Ltd, we endeavour to source FSC Chain of Custody timber for all our products.

Time and Cost Savings: Fabrication of panels off-site using MMC can greatly reduce the length of construction time. Completed panels can be erected swiftly which reduces labour costs and means there are fewer potential delays due to bad weather. External and internal work can be carried out simultaneously giving further labour and time savings. Additionally, tight moisture control of the timber part plus the elimination of 'wet' trades construction eliminated any need for a drying-out period.

Greater Control: Rapid and more controlled construction allows greater control of project costs and greater certainty over completion dates.

Superior Quality: Timber panels are constructed in a controlled factory environment ensuring better quality control and less risk of defects compared with on-site construction methods.

Precision Manufacture and Versatility: Timber panels can be designed and produced to high levels of precision. This means panels can be produced to work within tight tolerances and comply with exacting building standards. Precision manufacture of timber frames also allows for great flexibility and versatility.
